- Random misfires across multiple cylinders — often a vacuum leak, fuel-delivery issue, faulty injectors or a mass airflow sensor rather than ignition at all
- Fouled plugs that come back fouled quickly — pointing to a rich mixture, coolant intrusion or an engine burning oil
- Misfire codes alongside fuel-trim or lean codes — the ignition parts may be fine and the real fault is on the air or fuel side
